Me

See I am real.
I would have photos of my work so far because I finished my first full strip today (5 cards per strip) and did another 3 colours on another but my camera batteries decided to die.
Sorry!Tomorrow I'm taking new batteries.

Painting

I like making a mess.
Fresh colours :D

Today

Was a good day I started my final pieces.
Bit of drama though because I suddenly realized I hadn't actually decided how I was going to do them.Because part of me now doesn't want separate cards and likes my testers of the full strips but I didn't actually know what layout I wanted.
Nice thing was though my lecturer decided to walk in the studio halfway through my indecisive crazy moment and we had a lovely chat along with my friend Susan and I finally made up my mind.
So they are going to be collections on each strip in order from Rich/Fresh/Warm/Calm Red One to Rich/Fresh/Warm/Calm Neutral Eight.I'll get a photo up room to show what I mean because it's slightly to complicated to explain really.(I tried writing an explanation about four times and failed so photos soon I promise!)
I'm planning to get at least one "range" completed for assessment but if I can do more I will depends on time.I've started with the Fresh range some some reason I think that is the set of colours that I find most attractive because they are so bright and vibrant and for assessment/exhibiting they would look the most pleasing to most people.
I also found another space for exhibiting.I really need to talk to estates at uni and apply for it though.

Around Uni

Took some photos around uni today to see where I could display my work as we're not allowed in the studios because the 3rd years need to prepare their graduate work.Got a couple of places in mind so here are some photos I like the top two areas best becasue they lead onto one another plus their quite long and the window sill is perfect for propping the "cards" up :D

Paint!

I got my paint! :D
Above are the colours I sorted into the ranges.
I'm realising now how many colours there are because I didn't sort this lot:

Cardiff

Went in Howells in Cardiff today and the Ted Baker section had this display.I quite like the layering that they had done it's not really clear but the colours were really bright and lots of texture.
I'm just trying to figure out how to display my own work.

Ebay

I've ended my ebay listing.I'm quite sad really.I had 6 watchers,533 views and raised £64.
I've raised enough money (more than enough actually but it covered my MDF and I think I may need to buy more cream paint to mix with and any I have left over will be saved and used for my Graduation project so don't worry none will go to waste!) from friends,my boyfriend, family and ebay.I also put money in myself because I couldn't let everyone else pay for it.
So a massive thank you to everyone who donated and especially to those who came across my ebay page by chance and have been willing to help out a complete stranger. It has been really nice to see that people can be so generous with their money and also their time as many sent me lovely good luck messages.
Thank you so much the Dulux Paint Project is possible because of you all.
Love love love.
Keep checking here for updates and progress as soon as my paint arrives I'm sure I'll be uploading loads of new photos constantly!

Missing cards

Thanks to the lovely Emma I don't need to spam the Dulux website as she has offered to get the cards sent to me :)
They only let you order 15 sample cards at a time.I need to order 14 full cards which is 78 cards of individual colours.Which is a bit of a pain, almost as bad as 72 packages of paint!
I'm all for single packages!
So thank you Emma!
Dulux employees = awesome

Homebase

I took another "Emporium Rose" card for there the other day now I can't find it and I lost my original in uni somewhere.Think the dulux website is going to take a battering on test cards in about 5 minutes I've got a 13 missing plus Emporium Rose.
I also had a thought about priming my MDF.I'm using Homebase brand emulsion I don't know whether it sits right because its the "Dulux Paint Project" but I already had the white paint and lets face it Dulux had gotten enough money from me!(and you)

MDF

Ordered my MDF yesterday
2 sheets 6mm thick.Came to over £20 but that's nothing compared to the cost of my paint (£211.68!)
Going to be delivered tomorrow so going to spend the day in uni by the looks of it and see if I can get it cut up and start priming pieces.
I'm undecided whether I should prime then cut or cut then prime.I think cutting them priming will be the easiest because moving it around would mark the paint and make the surface dirty which I don't want to happen really plus the edges might go ragged on the saw so I think cut then prime would be my best bet thinking about it.
I've decided to make them life size because if I made them double size it would be a bit much wood and make them harder to move around because there will be 216 of them!
I think I'm going to make a few extras to give to people who've donated maybe some bigger pieces.Depends on time and how much MDF I end up with left over?
Just waiting for everything to arrive now really!

My Mother

Is the most awesome person ever.
I rang her yesterday to tell her my news from Dulux ad she was very happy. She then said that she'd give me some money aswell and as she sells crocheted shawls and baby clothes on ebay the next shawl she sells however much it goes for is how much she is going to give to me.
I think her average is about £20-£30 so thats awesome :D

I love ebay

I had an awesome message through ebay yesterday from a lady called Emma:
"hi,
i came across your advert by chance, and was very interested in what you are doing.
I work for dulux and was surprised when i saw what you where trying to do. I was also surprised when I read that you had contacted Dulux and they couldnt help you. Do you mind me asking who you contacted?
I think that what you are doing is very good, and I have contacted a couple of people to see if we can help you, I am just awaiting a reply.
I dont want to get your hopes up or anything but I am trying to find out if there is a way that we can help you.

Im sure I will be in touch soon
Emma
"

I messaged her back who I had been in contact with and told her that I had been offered a courier for my paint instead of paying for the 72 seperate packages.I haven't had a reply off her yet.
I've also had sponsorship from two stangers so far.One from Michelle who also messaged me this:
"Hi there. Wishing you lots of luck. I came across you because I was looking for Dulux sample pots too, but I cannot find any on ebay - perhaps you have bought them all!! Last weekend Focus DIY shop had a massive sale and I got a few pots for 10p each. I don't know if you have a Focus nearby or if the sale is still on but this may help you. I am going to give you a donation and will hopefully follow your progress - and the painstaking mixing process that you will have to go through! Good luck. M - www.madebym.co.uk for all things shabby chic - so think of me when you mix those Dolly Mixture colours!"
Which was lovely and also Dani who sponsoered me £10 and sent me this message with payment:
"Hope you get enough together...when you are famous, look me up and send me a painting!! Dani"
So if any of you are reading this thank you very very much I appreciate your support and help so much.
I'm glad there are people like this out there and my friends have been awesome so far donating to me :)
Love love love

I ♥ Dulux

They are sending me my paint in one package instead of 72 packages!
Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!
I was so stressed this morning and now I'm so happy I keep crying and giggling to myself.
Nadean John-Baptiste-Bennett is the best person to work for Dulux ever.

Totally off point

But I do love Amazon just bought 3 books for under £20.
Freud,Marx and Theories, essay writing here we come.

Dulux

Dragging their feet a little bit.I phoned their customer services number three times today. Not very helpful to be quite honest.I sent an email again asking about p+p again the other day had a reply to that today thought funnily enough.
Also been in contact with Parcelforce i.e I sent them an email asking if they would be ok with transporting paint because the reason Dulux sends only 3 samples per box is because they have resrictions on the amount of chemicals they can send in general post.Understandable obviously.
But if I use another delivery company who don't mind transporting paint in a larger quantity which is 6.48 litres of paint (ouch!haha!) I don't see why it would be a problem for them to chuck all the paint in a box for me I arrange the courier all they need to do is weigh it so I can pay the right amount to said delivery company and then bang it gets picked up, Dulux gets £211.68, delivery company gets £30 (ish) and Charlie gets paint and everyone is happy. It's all red tape no one can just say "Yes we can do that" its all "oh I'll have to check with so and so" etc etc
It's just a little bit frustrating that it feels like I've got to jump through hoops for them to even speak to me.
I'm small fry I suppose that's why I'm not high priority to them.
No offence to anyone who works for Dulux who's reading this I'm just feeling a bit let down currently because I need to get on with my project and I don't feel I'm getting help.
Although the email I recieved today in reply to the one I sent on the 4th March seems more promising I got about 3 emails within an hour.

Gaps or no gaps?

I like the gaps no gaps looks silly.

Money Pot

I've raised about £45 so far :) In a cup from Tate Modern how appropriate

EBAY

Thanks :)

MDF

Oh dear :( I'm allergic to it apparently.
My skin goes all scaly on my arms when I'm painting on it.I also suffer from psoriasis so it's probably a combination of that plus my skin being sensitive.

Outside b floor

Where can I exhibit outside B floor studios?I get extra credit for doing it outside the fine art studios.
I'm thinking around campus but I don't know if estates will pull a hissy fit about "Health and Safety" I'll have to see if I need to apply for it.
Maybe I'll just do it at home?Open my house for an evening lol.

Choces Choices Choices

Paint? - Emulsion
What size? - medium
What on? - MDF (I like it)
How many?- Depends on money 54-216 (sponsorship needs to be figured out)
If I'm restricted what range? -Fresh (its the prettiest and easiest to mix)

Ebay

Do I set up an ebay page trying to get sponsorship?
I need to find out more about the fees/final payments first.
Just a shame Dulux can't help me so I'll have to help myself.

The great sponsorship challenge

The Dulux Paint Project Facebook Group

I love Facebook for projects :D

Reply From Dulux

No free paint/sponsorship sadly. At least they got back to me which I'm grateful for they didn't just ignore me.Have to find another way of getting my paint now!Maybe the student loan is going to take a beating!
They sent me this reply it's very nice:

Dear Charlotte
and many thanks for your recent email regarding sponsorship.

Unfortunately, however, it is with regret, that I have to inform you that we are unable to offer any financial assistance or sponsorship on this occasion.

Like many large companies, AkzoNobel (formerly ICI Paints) receives thousands of appeals for help and/or sponsorship and, as you will appreciate, we are only able to respond positively to a small number of those who approach us for assistance. In view of the difficulty in determining which appeals are most worthy of support, our current policy does not include 'individual' sponsorship of this nature.

You may be interested to know that ICI Group's worldwide charitable donations for 2008 amounted to some £2.0 million, of which £1.0 million was spent in the UK. Akzo Nobel/ICI Paints also supports local community projects and academic development. In addition, we have entered into three major charity partnerships; firstly with SENSE, helping deafblind people in the UK and more recently with the Outward Bound Trust, an educational charity that helps young people fulfil their potential through challenging outdoor experiences, as well as our employees 'charity of choice', Cancer Research UK.

I am sorry to send you such a disappointing reply, but would like to wish you every success for the future.

Yours sincerely,
Chris Donovan
