Unfortunately, however, it is with regret, that I have to inform you that we are unable to offer any financial assistance or sponsorship on this occasion.
Like many large companies, AkzoNobel (formerly ICI Paints) receives thousands of appeals for help and/or sponsorship and, as you will appreciate, we are only able to respond positively to a small number of those who approach us for assistance. In view of the difficulty in determining which appeals are most worthy of support, our current policy does not include 'individual' sponsorship of this nature.
You may be interested to know that ICI Group's worldwide charitable donations for 2008 amounted to some £2.0 million, of which £1.0 million was spent in the UK. Akzo Nobel/ICI Paints also supports local community projects and academic development. In addition, we have entered into three major charity partnerships; firstly with SENSE, helping deafblind people in the UK and more recently with the Outward Bound Trust, an educational charity that helps young people fulfil their potential through challenging outdoor experiences, as well as our employees 'charity of choice', Cancer Research UK.
I am sorry to send you such a disappointing reply, but would like to wish you every success for the future.
